Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table
Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
